Cooking with Lavender in the Kitchen

When it comes to adding a unique touch to your culinary creations, cooking with lavender in the kitchen is an exciting and aromatic way to elevate your dishes. Lavender is not only known for its soothing fragrance in aromatherapy but also for its delightful and nuanced flavor in various recipes. Whether you're an experienced chef or a home cook looking to experiment with new ingredients, incorporating lavender into your cooking can bring a fresh perspective to your culinary repertoire.

Lavender, part of the mint family, has a sweet and slightly floral taste that complements a variety of dishes. From appetizers to desserts, its versatility can enhance both savory and sweet recipes. Before getting started, it’s important to use culinary-grade lavender to ensure you are using the safest and best-tasting type for cooking. Here, we'll explore various ways to incorporate lavender into your kitchen, from simple drinks to more complex main courses.

One of the easiest ways to start cooking with lavender in your kitchen is to make lavender infused sugar. Simply combine granulated sugar with dried lavender buds, letting it sit for a couple of weeks in an airtight container. This infused sugar can be used to sweeten tea, sprinkle on baked goods, or even in cocktails. The subtle lavender flavor adds a sophisticated twist that is sure to impress your guests.

Baking with lavender is another delightful way to explore its culinary potential. Consider adding a teaspoon of dried lavender buds to your favorite cookie dough or cake batter. It pairs particularly well with lemon, honey, and blueberries, offering a refreshing and aromatic touch. Be sure to grind the buds with sugar before incorporating them into your recipes to evenly distribute the flavor.

Infusing oils and vinegars with lavender is another method to include this fragrant herb in your kitchen. Simply add a handful of dried lavender buds to a bottle of olive oil or vinegar, seal it, and let it sit for a week or two. The infused oil can be used in salad dressings, as a drizzle over roasted vegetables, or as a bread dip. Lavender vinegar can add a floral note to your vinaigrettes and marinades, enhancing the complexity of your dishes.

For those who enjoy experimenting with beverages, lavender can be an excellent addition. Lavender lemonade is a popular and refreshing drink, perfect for warm days. To make it, boil water with sugar and dried lavender buds to create a lavender syrup, then mix it with fresh lemon juice and water. You can also create cocktails by infusing spirits like gin or vodka with lavender, adding a distinct and elegant flavor to your drinks.

In savory dishes, lavender pairs beautifully with poultry, lamb, and fish. Consider making a lavender spice rub by combining dried lavender with other spices such as thyme, rosemary, garlic powder, and black pepper. Rub this blend onto meats before grilling or roasting to impart a unique and aromatic flavor. Additionally, lavender can be added to sauces and dressings to complement meat dishes, providing a hint of floral complexity.

When cooking with lavender in the kitchen, it's essential to use it sparingly. Due to its potent flavor, a little goes a long way. Start with small amounts and taste as you go, allowing you to find the perfect balance without overpowering your dish. And, always ensure that the lavender you are using is free from pesticides and safe for consumption.

In conclusion, incorporating lavender into your kitchen can transform everyday recipes into extraordinary culinary experiences. From infusing sugars and oils to enhancing drinks and savory dishes, this fragrant herb offers endless possibilities. The key is to experiment and enjoy the process of discovering how lavender can uniquely flavor your favorite dishes. So, the next time you're in the kitchen, consider adding a touch of lavender and let your culinary creativity blossom.

Our Story

Rooted in Love, Lavender, and LIFE

Watch the Video

We’re Vic and Vickie Bennett—high school sweethearts, married for over 30 years, proud parents of four amazing daughters, and lifelong believers in the power of love, imagination, and purpose. After years of creating and running spa businesses in NYC and Washington, D.C., we felt called to slow down and plant something new—thousands of lavender plants on our family farm in West Michigan. From that peaceful beginning, Lavender Life Company was born—founded on the values we live by: Learning, Imagination, Friendship, and Excellence (LIFE).

Our mission goes beyond wellness products. For every Xander Bunny purchased, we donate one to a child in foster care to remind them they are loved and not alone. It's part of our heart’s mission: “To be an engine to support kids at risk worldwide.” Every lavender-infused creation we offer is made to nurture, soothe, and spread love—from our family farm to your home.

Lavender Life Company and Little Buds Co. were created to offer products that feel like a hug and remind us all of our inherent worth. We aim to inspire simpler, softer living, joyful discovery, and meaningful connection—one lavender-scented moment at a time.

With grateful hearts, we welcome you to our journey—and yes, we guarantee every product we make. Because when you're with us, you're family.

Warmly,

Vic & Vickie Bennett
